Homemade Garam Masala Powder

Simple process of a homemade garam masala powder, an aromatic mixture of ground spices, which is a must in any Indian Kitchen and widely used in Indian cuisine.

Ingredients

  • ½ cup coriander seeds
  • ½ Tablespoon cloves
  • 2 inch cinnamon stick
  • 4 to 5 Cardamoms

Instructions

  • Dry roast all the above ingredients in a pan over medium heat with constant stirring to ensure even roasting. Roast till fragrant. It may take around 5 to 7 minutes.
  • Cool down and blend in a mixer or coffee grinder to a fine powder.
  • You can store the powder in an airtight jar for about 2 months since all are dry ingredients.

Notes

Though the powder has a longer shelf life, it is advisable not to store it for a very long period since the aroma is lost.
You can try and adjust spices to suit your taste or even add your favourite spices.
