Inspired by Indian street food, Masala Puffed Rice Recipe for Kara Pori is quite simple to make, tastes delicious and healthy tea time snack very low in calories.
- 1 Tablespoon Oil
- 1 teaspoon Mustard seeds
- 4-5 Dry red chillies
- 1/2 Cup Raw Peanuts with skin
- 6-8 Garlic pods with skin lightly crushed
- 1/2 teaspoon Turmeric powder
- 1/4 teaspoon Asafoetida
- A Sprig Curry Leaves
- Salt to taste
- 4 Cups of Puffed Rice
Heat oil in a wide deep pan over medium heat.
Add mustard seeds and once the mustard starts to splutter, add dry red chillies, raw peanuts and fry till they are half roasted.
Now, add crushed garlic and sauté till the garlic turns light brown.
Now add turmeric powder, followed by asafoetida, salt and curry leaves.
Add puffed rice and stir for few seconds till the puffed rice becomes crispy. Adjust salt if required and turn off the heat.
Store it in an airtight container once it cools down.
