Mcaloo Tikki Burger bun

Burgers are an instant favourite. Aloo Tikki Burger is loved by people of all age groups. This veg aloo tikki burger can serve as a quick meal and is also a good idea for kids lunch box or as a snack after school hours. The Mcdonalds Veggie Burger is irresistible. The Aloo Tikki is super crisp and full of flavour. This is a perfect vegetarian or even become a vegan option by skipping butter to toast the buns. The patties are very unique and is prepared mainly with mashed potatoes and green peas. You can also freeze it for later.

MCAlooTikkis (Where aloo means potatoes) is a classic burger recipe introduced by fast food chain – McDonalds to meet and suit the Indian Vegetarian market.  McDonald’s serves localised burgers in different countries based on regional flavours. Aloo Tikki is a famous snack and street food in India. Mcdonalds has created fusion in a perfect east meets west style and ever since this item has gained popularity in India, the main reason being that the majority of Indians are vegetarians.

I have improvised Aloo Tikki Burger Recipe as per my taste preference. You need flavours which will relate to every Indian’s taste palette. So, for this I’m going to add in some of my favourite spices to the mixture to make patties.

So, Here I’m presenting the awesome Aloo Tikki burger, McDonald style in my own style. Without further ado let’s get started!

Steps to follow for

Aloo Tikki Burger Recipe:

Prep Work:

  • First we need some boiled potatoes. It’s better if they are cold. Try to refrigerate unpeeled potatoes for a couple of hours. Cooling them will reduce the level of moisture and it will be firm.
  • For the same reason and to make the aloo Tikki crispy, we also add some poha or rice flakes. Just wash them and leave it. They become soft in no time.
  • Now, peel and shred them. You can also mash them, but, I prefer to grate them. This patty does not contain any veggies except peas.

Making Aloo Tikki:

  • Combine the boiled, grated/mashed potatoes with boiled peas in a bowl and and mash well.
  • To this add in the washed rice flakes. Mix well.
  • Add in all the spice powders and mix well to form a tight dough.
  • Give shape to the patties and dip in corn starch and remove excess starch.
  • Prepare the coating batter by mixing maida, corn flour and crushed pepper and a little salt to taste. Add water and mix without lumps to a semi thick consistency batter.
  • Make a ball with the potato mixture and flatten to form a patty. Give shape to the patties and dip in corn starch and remove excess starch.
  • Dip the patties into the paste, make sure to coat all sides evenly. Roll the coated patties in bread crumbs.
  • Shallow fry in little oil 2 to 3 minutes on each side until the patties turn golden brown in colour. You can also deep fry patties in oil or bake the same at 180 c° for 8 to 10 minutes on each side or until the patties turn golden brown in colour.
  • Remove patties onto a plate. The patties are crisp from outside and soft from inside.
  • For the burger sauce, mix mayonnaise, tomato sauce and chilli sauce. Adjust quantities according to your taste.

Assembling Burger:

  • Cut open the burger buns into half and toast on the inner side with a little butter.
  • In the same pan, add a splash of water, place tikki and place a cheese slice over the tikki. Cover with the lid and leave it for 30 seconds to 1 minute. The steam in the pan helps to melt & soften the cheese slightly.
  • Menwhile, spread burger sauce on the inside of the toasted buns. On the bottom bun, place a few lettuce leaves, patty with the cheese slice, 2 slices of tomato, and a few onion rings.
  • Cover with top bun and press lightly.
  • Enjoy the burger with Masala French Fries or normal fries and sauce of your preference!!
