Dalgona Coffee Recipe or Whipped Coffee is a frothy 3 ingredient coffee prepared using instant coffee powder. Simply mix and whip together equal parts of instant coffee, sugar and hot water in a bowl until it’s light and frothy and then mixed with chilled milk.
If you’ve been spending lockdown doing nothing but watching TikToks, like everyone else on the planet, you might have seen a new recipe for how to make Dalgona coffee, the iced coffee that everyone’s going mad for. I was resisting myself for so long not to post this but being a coffee freak, I just can’t avoid it!! A Dalgona coffee a day keeps the lockdown blues away!! Beating the coffee is not something new but years old trend. I got to know very recently that it’s called Dalgona. We always called it whipped coffee….never knew it had such a peppy name!!
What is Dalgona Coffee?
This delish-looking coffee is quite easy to prepare. This is the most trending Coffee recipe that has taken over the internet these days and the name came from a South Korean toffee candy “Dalgona”. It’s basically the thickest, creamiest cold latte drink topped with a smooth velvety sweet coffee foam. The best part you don’t need fancy coffee powder or machines to make this one.
Take your time to beat the coffee mixture, longer whipping sessions (as long as 20 minutes or even more for a wire whisk, what better way to get some physical activity in your day..right?) gives that perfect frothy mix. If you can use a hand blander, you get it done in under 2 minutes.
Now, fill the glass with crushed ice and pour your favourite chilled milk. Top it with whipped coffee foam on top and dust some instant coffee powder on the top to make it visually appealing.
Just give it a mix, when you are ready to drink it….Voila..Yummy coffee is ready!!
Some FAQ regarding Dalgona Coffee:
Do I have to use sugar? The sugar helps the coffee whip to a fluffy and stable texture that holds its shape for a while. You can reduce sugar amount, but it might not be so fluffy. If you’re really sensitive to sugar, you can reduce it down, just know that your coffee won’t be as fluffy.
What kind of milk to use? You can use cow’s milk, dairy free milk such as almond milk, oat milk or any other kind of milk that you prefer.
Can I make Dalgona coffee without electric mixer? Yes, you can whip the coffee using a regular whisk, it may take a little bit more time, but it is absolutely possible.
How to make Whipped Coffee Step by Step
1- In a large mixing bowl, place some instant coffee, sugar and hot water (1:1:1 ratio).
2- Using an electric mixer or a wire whisk, whisk vigorously until it’s thick, creamy, light and frothy. At first, it looks like sludge and smells a bit like battery acid, but trust me the final outcome is totally yummy.
3- It quickly gets fluffy, but it takes a while to make it thick. The whisking process definitely takes a good few minutes if you’re weak and/or don’t have an electric whisk. Finally soft peaks appear and then you are done.
4- Add a few ice cubes and fill only 3/4 of a cup with cold milk. Top it up generously with foamy whipped coffee. Dust some instant coffee powder. Mix well before drinking.

Notes
- Use only Instant Coffee Powder to make dalgona/whipped coffee.
- If making small amount, you can use a milk frother to beat the coffee.
- Never use an immersion blender to beat the mixture. The heat will make it taste bitter. So, use the blender that you use to make cakes.
- The time taken varies depending on the type if mixer you are using.
- You can store the beaten coffee foam in refrigerator (not freezer) for up to a week.

Yes I too jumped on the bandwagon and made Dalgona Coffee. I added a bit of chocolate powder and it took forever to whip. However, must say though others frowned at the amount of sugar, hubby and I thoroughly enjoyed it. Love how yours have those soft peaks.
