Sesame Laddu Recipe With Jaggery – Nuvvula Undalu | Til Ke Ladoo | Ellu Urundai, a traditional Indian sweet that’s easy to make with just few ingredients. It’s a great energy booster and a healthy yet tasty snack option for all age groups.
Laddu is an Indian sweet dish made during festive seasons. These jaggery and sesame seeds (til/nuvvulu/ellu) laddus are extremely flavoursome and are sure to be loved by those who have a sweet tooth. Depending on the region, Sesame Laddu is also called as til ke laddu, til ladoo, nuvvula undalu, ellu urundai or ellu unde. This calcium rich sweet is very simple to make and requires just four ingredients. Sesame seeds are a very good source of the minerals copper and manganese and rich in antioxidants. Sesame seeds are full of good fats and great source of dietary fibre. They help to prevent high blood pressure and naturally help warm the body during winter months.
Jaggery is a rich source of iron. Indian Ayurvedic medicine considers jaggery to be a wholesome sugar beneficial to health. Ayurveda also considers jaggery to be beneficial in treating throat and lung infections. So, this is such a healthy combination!!
Two different ways to make Sesame Ladoo or Nuvvula Undalu:
One way to make Sesame Laddu Recipe is by melting the jaggery and cooking the roasted sesame in them.
The second method is toasting the sesame, peanuts and coconut and blending them in a mixer jar with jaggery. I prefer the second method and this is the method I will be sharing today. This procedure is so simple and gives soft melt in the mouth kind of texture to the ladoo…slightly chewy & nutty in flavour.
Easy Steps to Follow for
Sesame Laddu Recipe
- Roast the sesame seeds on low heat until they become light brown in colour & turn aromatic. Transfer to a bowl & let it cool down completely.
- Similarly roast the peanuts till you get a light golden hue. Remove and set a side. Once the peanuts cool down, remove the skin. You can skip this step and also use roasted unsalted peanuts.
- Turn off heat once done and add desiccated coconut. The heat in the pan is sufficient to lightly toast the coconut.
- Transfer roasted sesame seeds to a mixer jar keeping aside 2 tbsp of roasted whole sesame seeds. Grind coarsely & transfer to a bowl.
- Add peanut coconut mixture and grated jaggery to the mixer jar. Grind coarsely and transfer to the bowl with sesame seeds mixture.
- To this mixture add in the whole roasted seeds we set aside. Also add a little cardamom powder for flavour and mix well.
- Divide into small portions and hold tight and make small balls of the mixture.
- You will be easily able to form the balls because sesame has lot of oil in it. Just in case you cannot form the ladoo add a little ghee to the mixture, mix it well and make the laddu. For longer shelf life, I recommend using a ghee to bind laddus if needed.
- You can also add 1-2 tea spoons of warm water or milk while making the laddus for binding. But, this is only for less quantity as it will have lesser shelf life.
