How to Make Turmeric Milk/Golden Milk/Haldi Doodh
Usually it’s made it with only 2 ingredients- Milk and Turmeric. You can then sweeten if you want! It’s that simple. I would recommend adding a little pepper, which helps in the absorption of Curcumin, the active compound in turmeric. But, you know me, I like to add a lot of sipes (masalas) and hence I like to call it Masala Haldi Doodh.
Spices Used in Golden Turmeric Milk Recipe
My version of golden milk is heavy on spices, If you don’t want any of the spices, feel free to omit! Turmeric & ginger can be used in fresh or powder form.
- TURMERIC: The active compound in turmeric is Curcumin. Curcumin is proven to have anti-inflammatory and immune-boosting properties.
- BLACK PEPPERCORNS: Contains Piperine, a chemical known to help promote Curcumin absorption.
- DRY GINGER: Enhances the antioxidant and antimicrobial properties.
Optional Ingredients:
- CINNAMON: Include this if you are looking for weight loss.
- CARDAMOM: For flavour
Once your golden milk is done, adding 1/2 teaspoon of ghee (clarified butter) or coconut oil helps with absorption, as Curcumin requires healthy fats to dissolve properly. You can add any sweetener of your choice and sprinkle it with cardamom or cinnamon powder just before serving.
