Honey Ginger Lemonade

Jump to Recipe Print Recipe

Honey ginger lemonadeThis Honey Ginger Lemonade stems from my profound love for ginger. It should come as no surprise that I have a bit of an obsession with ginger and garlic. But don’t worry, for today’s recipe it’s just ginger!! When it comes to ordering a drink in a restaurant, my favourite next to Virgin Pina Colada would be Honey Ginger Lemonade or just Ginger Lemonade. I’ve made it my personal mission to become well versed in all things ginger, if not the above mentioned, my order would be Ginger ale.

The ginger flavour is much lighter to my spice requirement, but I didn’t want it to overpower the lemon in this case, as this is first and foremost lemonade with ginger and not the other way around.

That said, if you love spicy ginger to the extreme, go ahead and add a bit of ginger juice at the end of the recipe for Honey Ginger Lemonade? This will be easy if you have a juicer, otherwise, just puree a chunk of ginger in your blender or food processor and then strain it through a strainer.

The extra hint of ginger will help in case you are suffering from a cold and clear your sinuses in no time.

Ginger Lemonade V2 Honey Ginger Lemonade

Once I start using an ingredient, my brain can’t switch gears. It just keeps bringing out ideas for the same ingredient. I’m not sure if this is correst, but it is better than no ideas, so I’m going to stick with it. It’s the mint…Yes I’m talking about the mint ice cubes I made in my last post for Mint Flavoured Watermelon Cooler. Click here for the recipe. I’m just using them for garnish and nothing more!! But there is something about infused and decorative ice cubes that are getting on me off late.

This Honey Ginger Lemonade is the perfect balance of tartness and sweetness with just enough ginger flavour and a dash of mint to enhance the drink, but not to overpower it. You could easily combine it with sparkling water for a refreshing lemonade soda!

A cool glass of Honey Ginger Lemonade tastes great chilled from the fridge and seems perfect on one of those lovely, long, lazy days outdoors. It starts with simple syrup made from equal parts water and honey (or a littles less than water). Into that goes the “zing,”  of grated ginger and heated shortlly to dissolve. Leave it for about 30 minutes to infuse. Once the syrup is made, the lemonade is almost ready to pour.  The syrup is strained, cooled and ready to make the lemonade, mixed with fresh lemon juice, cold water, and ice cubes.

Ginger Lemonade V6

There’s nothing more refreshing than a cool drink mixed with a few tasty ingredients that delight the taste buds. Honey Ginger Lemonade as a detox Drink provides your body with a cleanse that flushes the fat away. Its two main ingredients are the perfect powerhouses for a great detox that will have you feeling light!

Ginger is a powerful detox ingredient that helps to kick start your metabolism. Sipping a ginger infused beverage will have your metabolism on the rise throughout the day. Lemons are a natural detoxifier. And with their diuretic effect, your body will more easily shed unwanted toxins. Honey is an excellent source of all-natural energy and also a healthy natural sweetener.

When is a rush, simply add the juice of half a lemon to a glass of water, and then grate your ginger directly into the glass. It’s an easy prep way and a great way to hydrate while enjoying some natural flavour!

Btw….Honey Ginger Lemonade is my last recipe to the Blog Hop theme “BEVERAGES” !!

Ginger Lemonade V3

Let’s get started to make Honey Ginger Lemonade:

To make the honey ginger syrup:

  • Place the honey, grated/minced ginger and water in a medium saucepan, bring to a boil and simmer until honey is completely dissolved.

step1

  • Turn off heat and cover. Let it steep for 30 minutes.
  • Strain syrup thorough a fine mesh sieve into a bowl, pressing hard on the ginger pulp and then discarding the solids.

step2

  • Pour into a bottle or jar, let cool completely and then chill until cold, about 1 hour.
  • The syrup will keep in your refrigerator for up to two weeks.

step3

To make the Honey Ginger Lemonade:

  • Add the freshly squeezed lemon juice and the honey ginger syrup to a large pitcher or a bowl.

step4

  • Add 3 cups of cold water (more or less depending on how strong you like your lemonade).
  • If you are using sparkling water don’t add it until you are ready to serve so that it doesn’t lose its fizz. Refrigerate until ready to serve.

step5

  • Pour lemonade over ice filled glasses, top with a slice of lemon and a few thinly sliced ginger strips.
  • Garnish with a sprig of mint and a lemon slice.

  • 50 grams fresh ginger root peeled and finely grated (I use a microplane zester)
  • For the lemonade:
  • ½ cup fresh squeezed lemon juice strained (about 2 to 3 large lemons)
  • 2 cups cold filtered water
  • Required honey ginger syrup
  • Ice for serving
  • Sliced lemons ginger (thinly sliced) and mint sprigs for garnish (optional)

Instructions

  • To make the honey ginger syrup:
  • Place the honey, grated/minced ginger and water in a medium saucepan, bring to a boil and simmer until honey is completely dissolved.
  • Turn off heat and cover. Let it steep for 30 minutes.
  • Strain syrup thorough a fine mesh sieve into a bowl, pressing hard on the ginger pulp and then discarding the solids.

  • Pour lemonade over ice filled glasses, top with a slice of lemon add a few sliced ginger strips, and garnish with a sprig of mint and a lemon slice.

Notes

1. Adjust sweetness tartness to suit your taste.
2. You can also add mint to the ginger syrup and boil, which has a totally different taste and flavour.
3. Add ginger ale If you want to use sparkling water, it's tastes awesome!!

Love the idea of combining honey and ginger. I often make lemonade but have not used this combination. I’ll try your version. It looks really refreshing with all the medicinal properties that are in this mix!
