Tricolour Idli Recipe with Tricolour Chutneys – Mini Idli Recipe (Button Idli) | Tiranga Idli -Republic Day Special – An interesting healthy breakfast idea with a colourful twist to the age old idlis, depicting the three colours in our Indian flag to celebrate this Republic day in true spirit.
Sharing a quick recipe to make colourful Vegetable Idlis today. I have used carrot and green capsicum along with some greens to make Tri color mini idli. You can also make regular size idli. The best part about this breakfast recipe is that it uses no artificial colours. It is light & healthy and attracts Kids to enjoy! This recipe is especially useful to prepare for your kids when they require to carry tricolour food to schools on Independence day or Republic day. You can also prepare this dish to give a healthy colourful twist to your simple boring breakfast.
This recipe takes care of all the nutrition you require while adding the colours to it. It’s prepared with idli rice, urad dal, carrot and capsicum along with some herbs. today, I’m serving these tricolour mini idlis with tricolour chutneys for a delicious and fulfilling breakfast..

Perfect Idli Dosa Batter Recipe with all tips & tricks
- Peel and grate the carrot. Grind to a fine paste.
- Grind greens of your choice to a fine paste. I’m using capsicum, coriander & mint.
- Take 3 cups of idli batter. Add 1 cup batter to the carrot puree (For Saffron Colour) & 1 cup to the green paste (For Green Colour). Mix well. Leave 1 cup batter as such (For White colour).
- Grease the idli plate with oil and fill idli plate with plain batter, carrot batter and green batter. I’m usin mini idli plate mould, your can use the regular one.
- Steam it for 7 to 8 minutes.
- Carefully take out idlis from the sides and serve it with chutney or sambar.
- Today I’m serving with tricolour chutneys to go with the theme.

NOTE: You can also grind the veggies along with the batter. Either way is fine.

Ingredients
- 3 Cups Idli Batter
- 1 Carrot
- 1/2 Green Capsicum
- Some Herbs Coriander & Mint
- 1 tsp Oil to grease Idli plate
- Salt to taste
Instructions
- Peel and grate the carrot. Grind to a fine paste.
- Grind Capsicum & herbs to a fine paste.
- Add 1 cup batter to the carrot puree (For Saffron Colour) & 1 cup to the green paste (For Green Colour). Mix well. Leave 1 cup batter as such (For White colour).

Notes
- You can grind the veggies separately & later mix with idli batter or grind along with the batter.
- Use any veggies of your choice to get required colours.
- You could even pin them on snack pickers & serve in kids parties.
- Cocktail Idli Skewers: Toss in mini idlis with some idli Podi, thread the cocktail skewers with idlis, onions and coloured bell peppers alternatively. Heat the griddle pan and brush with a little oil. Now, grill the skewers on low heat, turn the sides to evenly roast. Grill until bell peppers and onions are roasted and slightly charred. Serve as your cocktail snack or starter.
