Watermelon is really one of my all-time favourite fruit and a perfect summer treat. It’s cool, juicy, sweet and so yummy. Imagine sipping into a watermelon slush on a hot summer day!! A slushy is nothing but a flavoured frozen drink. This Frozen Watermelon Slush Recipe has mint and lime flavours…. You’re gonna adore this!! This is my latest summer favourite. And with watermelon season on hand, I cannot resist myself from creating this delicious drink.. Just blend and serve this fruit-based slushy…How simple is that?
With so much watermelon sitting around, I decided to freeze some and see how a watermelon slush would taste. To be honest, my original idea was to make a watermelon sorbet but after starting off, I took the shortcut and made this frozen watermelon slush instead. So simple to make, no mess to clean up….just whip up, freeze, sit back and chill with this refreshing icy goodness.
This Frozen Watermelon Slush Recipe is a great way to keep summer going. We have enjoyed a few very fresh and ripe watermelons. Did you know you can freeze watermelon?
It’s good to use seedless watermelon, which will save you the time and effort to remove the seeds. Sometimes I’m bugged about all the mushy and not so sweet watermelons I get sometimes. I was tired of wasting so much of the watermelon and that was when I decided to freeze watermelon chunks and use it later on to make a slushy. I may have to add a little sugar but that’s better than throwing it away!!
It’s super easy to make this Frozen Watermelon Slush Recipe, and what you get is such a delicious result. Just put your frozen watermelon cubes in a blender and blend until smooth. Then add up those extra ingredients to give a kick. A great and healthy alternative to soft drinks! I’ll be craving it now on every warm day. It’s a good thing that we all love watermelon around here….who doesn’t?
Off to Frozen Watermelon Slush Recipe!! Cool off with this refreshing drink that is ripe with summer flavours!
Easy Steps for Frozen Watermelon Slush Recipe:
You can make this slushy in 2 ways:
- Puree and freeze method
- Frozen watermelon chunk method
1. Puree and freeze method:
- You will need to remove the watermelon from the rind, discard black seeds and as many of the softer white seeds as possible.
- Then cut the watermelon into cubes before you can puree and freeze it. This prepping step can make things easier for you when you go to make the slush.
- Puree watermelon cubes.
- Add the lemon juice and sugar to the watermelon puree. Mix well and transfer to a bowl.
- Cover and freeze until solid, 8 to 10 hours.
- Two to four hours before serving, move the bowl to the refrigerator to soften the mixture.
- In the last hour before serving, use a fork to break the softened mixture into shavings.
- Garnish with mint leaves and serve. The mint flavour slowly infuses as you sip into the slush.
2. Frozen watermelon chunk method:
- Freeze cut and deseeded watermelon chunks.
- Remove them when you want to make a slushy.
- Blend to a puree and then mix with lemon juice and sugar.
- Garnish with mint leaves and serve.
Are you getting tempted to add alcohol to this recipe?
- Add one shot per serving to the blender. The frozen watermelon chunk method, rather than the puree and freeze method, works best for this alcoholic drink
